An early start to catch the riverine wildlife at play, as we cruise down the Bentota river on our shaded boat along with our own local captain.

Pass by islands, narrow channels, mangrove swamps, riverbanks covered with lush, tropical foliage and flowers, teeming with bird and marine life. In pure tranquility we'll meet along route, local fishermen in their homemade craft offering their fresh catches or simply giving lotus flowers to the ladies on board.

Gently drifting to a stop, we climb out and take a leisurely stroll through the village and then have an opportunity to climb 'Baby Adam's Peak' and visit the temple perched right at the top. The scenery from here is magnificent and you can see the eagles soaring high above. The steps coming down take us to the foot of the rock.

After the climb it is time for a traditional rice and curry lunch followed by an enactment of a Sri Lankan wedding, complete with bridesmaids and full regalia.

Galle is also famous for its ebony elephant carvings, gems and exquisite hand-made lace, which is a flourishing cottage industry.
