Leave for Udawalawe via Ratnapura / Pelmadulla. Ratnapura lies on the fringes of the hill country and is approximately 104 kilometers from Colombo. The route to Ratnapura takes you through acres of growing paddy, rubber plantations, coconut palms and picturesque landscape. |

For centuries Ratnapura has been the main supplier of Gems from the orient. Its name itself unchanged through the ages, means "The City of Gems". In and around Ratnapura prospecting and mining goes on every day, using the old primitive methods of gemming for precious stones, alexandrite, amethysts, zircons, topaz and tourmalines. |

Thereafter, proceed to Udawalawe Park entrance and transfer into Jeeps for Udawalawe Safari Tour. The area covers 119 square miles. It surrounds the Uda Walawe reservoir. Herds of Elephants can be seen along the banks of the Uda Walawe river. Small herds of deer can be seen frequently. Wild boar and crocodiles can also be seen. Seeing the leopard or bear is very rare. Uda Walawa is a recently established National Park declared purely with the intention of conserving the catchment areas of the Uda Walawa reservoir. |

DAY 02 |

After breakfast, depart for return to resort hotel via Galle and sightseeing in Galle, On our return home, we make a visit to a turtle hatchery, where they buy the eggs from the local fisherman. However due to the tsunami and the close proximity of the hatchery to the sea edge, most of this was washed away. New projects are underway but these may take some time to get established and we apologise if a hatchery is not included on this day. |
