Opened in January 1999. Designed by Donald Steel & Company. Set in Sri Lanka's central mountains right on the shores of the Victoria Reservoir

A 500 acre estate on the edge of the vast Victoria reservoir and overlooked by the Knuckles mountain range. The Country club has a host of activities on offer, such as swimming, tennis, horse riding and nature trails. However, it is the Donald Steel designed golf course that is Victoria’s star attraction.

Victoria is not just a well kept golf course set in stunning surroundings. The course is truly part of the landscape, beautifully moulded over every undulation, peak and slope. The course will test all your golfing skills, from long hitting on the three 500 yard long par 5s to the short testing par 3s and their icy fast greens. All 18 holes at Victoria would be regarded as stand out holes on other courses, it is however the par 4, 6th, that has become Victoria’s signature hole. The tee box is perched on a peak 100 ft above a fairway. The fairway looks very small from this great height and although you may not enjoy your tee shot the views are something to behold. The continual changing in elevation is a feature to this course, whether searching for fairways 100ft below or tying to find greens that tower above you. Finding the green is only half the challenge as the putting surfaces at Victoria are treacherous. Although the course was only completed in 1997, it is well established and with large Mara trees lining the fairways this course does not show its young age. Quite the opposite in fact as this course was voted ‘Best in Asia 2005’ by Asian Golf Monthly.

Facts for the visitor:

Victoria is approximately 20km east of Kandy and the drive from Colombo takes just over 3 ˝ hours. A train to Kandy and a taxi will take the same time but maybe more relaxing. Alternatively arrive in style and land on the reservoir in a Sri Lankan Air Taxi from Katanayaka airport.

The weather is suitable throughout the year, with plenty of sunshine yet cooler evenings. Rain is more common between June and October and the best weather is between late October and March.
