Horathapola lies hidden within a vast green coconut belt that stretches up the west coast from Negombo to Puttalam and inland to Kurenagala. Its relative proximity to Colombo International Airport make it a perfect base for those who want to unwind, slow down and recover after a long haul flight, or a place to relax before departing the country. But it is not just a one night stepping stone. Horathapola is well worth at least two nights.
Charming and elegantly furnished, this family-owned mansion dates back to the 1920s. The main house lies within a 50 acre coconut plantation surrounded by landscaped gardens and tall flowering trees. Coconut, rice, cashew nuts, mangoes and other fruits, as well as spices and hardwood trees are all grown on the estate.
Accommodation comprises a master bedroom and the family suite on the upper floor, and a double/or triple room on the ground floor. The rooms are light and airy. They open out onto wide verandas or terraces and are furnished with antique four-poster beds and period furniture. Each room has an spacious en-suite bathroom, which is beautifully appointed. |
